Ask the Vegan: How Can I Stay satisfied?

I stay satisfied the way most omnivores stay satisfied—by balancing carbs, fat, and protein in meals. While protein is the most effective way to suppress hunger for an extended period, you need a proper meal interaction of protein, carbs, and fats to stay fully satisfied. Just because vegans don’t eat meat or other animal fats doesn’t mean we can’t create well-rounded meals. On the contrary, vegans are probably more conscientious about eating balanced meals because we have to be. Continue reading

Food, food everywhere, but not a bite to eat!

While many use holiday parties as the perfect excuse to pig out, for vegans, it can mean a long night of starvation. When you’re hosting your own party, you can make sure that the menu is full of food that will please both vegans and omnivores, but when you go to a friend’s party, you’re at the mercy of their eating habits. Although many hostesses put out a veggie and hummus plate, that probably won’t be enough to sustain you throughout the night, especially if you’re getting into the holiday spirits.
